Hungarian PocketQubes (SMOG-P, ATL-1, SMOG-1, MRC-100)

Also known as SMOG-P, ATL-1, SMOG-1, MRC-100

Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) picosatellite series that mapped global DVB-T UHF spectrum pollution from LEO and pioneered redundant 1P/3P bus architecture.

Mapping terrestrial UHF interference from orbit#

Between 2019 and 2023, students and faculty at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) launched four PocketQubes that became benchmarks for picosatellite reliability and scientific return[1]:

SpacecraftSizeLaunchOrbit & primary achievement
SMOG-P (MO-105)1P6 Dec 2019 (Electron)Deployed at ; produced the first global 3D map of terrestrial DVB-T television interference in the UHF amateur band before decaying in September 2020[2].
ATL-1 (MO-106)2P6 Dec 2019 (Electron)Tested ceramic thermal-insulator materials in orbit alongside the BME spectrum monitor; re-entered in October 2020.
SMOG-1 (MO-110)1P22 Mar 2021 (Soyuz-2.1a / UniSat-7)Higher-altitude () sibling of SMOG-P with polyimide structural panels; operated for years in orbit[3].
MRC-1003P12 Jun 2023 (Falcon 9 Transporter-8) multi-band spectrum monitor ( to ) with active attitude control and S-band downlink.
